Notebook Market: Quanta August Revenue: Up nearly 56% year on year, expected to grow 20% in Q3 and decline in Q4

Quanta Computer Corp reported consolidated revenue of NT $131.869 billion (US $4.32 billion) in August, its third consecutive monthly record, up 1.86 percent monthly and 55.66 percent yearly, according to the company. Quanta notebooks shipped 5 million units in August, down 300,000 units month on month. But consolidated revenue rose sequentially in August as shipments of MacBooks and servers with relatively high average selling prices increased each month. Quanta expects laptop shipments to grow more than 20% quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter of 2022, followed by a significant decline in the fourth quarter.

Quanta's consolidated revenue from January to August was 833.577 billion yuan, up 17.62 percent year on year.

Compal Electronics shipped 2.8 million laptops in August, down 17.6% quarter-on-quarter, and expects shipments of notebook and non-PC products to decline more than 10% each and grow more than 10% quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter of 2022.

Wistron shipped 1.5 million laptops, 800,000 desktops and 1.2 million LCDS in August, down 11.8% respectively, flat, and down 7.7% month-on-month.

Inventec shipped 1.6 million laptops, down 5.9% month-on-month, while Pegatron shipped 610,000 laptops and 460,000 desktops and motherboards, down 14.7% and 8.0% month-on-month, respectively.

According to industry sources, Apple will launch 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros in the fourth quarter of 2022, which is expected to spark intense competition in the high-end laptop market that costs more than $1,000. Currently, demand for high-end notebooks, including gaming and business models, remains strong, while sales of entry-level notebooks are stable, but demand for mid-range models is weakening for the time being, sources said.
